Technology has changed the way people live, and certainly the way the people do business. Since the inception of the internet and now mobile, consumers have been used to getting what they want, when they want it, and with the help of technology businesses have been able to deliver. But now there’s even newer technologies and resources that can help businesses go above and beyond for their customers: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Intelligence Assistants (IA).

What are AI and IA?

AI has been a popular topic in the tech and business industry lately but what does it really mean? According to Merriam-Webster, AI is the capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior. Essentially, the program gets “smarter” each time a user interacts with it by adjusting its responses to the user’s preferences–as well as previous interactions. Consumers have likely already used this technology by way of products like Pandora radio, Apple’s Siri, or Amazon’s Alexa. These products help people solve simple problems by producing pre-determined responses based on the requests they are given. And since oftentimes people request information from these assistants, they make business marketing more efficient by streamlining the delivery of information, such as restaurant reservations or coupons straight to a person’s mobile device.

On the other hand, IA has received significantly less notoriety. IA by definition is the effective use of information technology in augmenting human intelligence. Put into simpler terms, IA helps humans do jobs that they are not capable of doing without the help of a computer. IA programs allow people to amplify their own intelligence to help them solve their own problems. An example of IA being used today would be IBM’s Watson.

The Difference between AI and IA

The key differences in these two technologies are that AI allows machines to be autonomous, or working without the help of humans. Conversely, IA was designed to enhance human intelligence by producing information that a person may not have been able to receive on their own. The main contrast between the two technologies would be the level of human involvement.

How to Use AI and IA to Enhance Business

AI can come in many different shapes and sizes but one of the easiest ways to implement this technology is by utilizing chatbots. Chatbots, or bots, are computer programs that simulate conversation with human users over the internet. These bots allow customers to interact directly with a brand without the involvement of a representative or customer service agent. Bots answer simple questions instantly for customers, or direct them to a customer service agent if the bot cannot assist them. The best part about bots is that the more customers interact with them, the more accurate their responses become through machine learning, taking a brand’s customer service to the next level and decreasing traffic to customer care representatives. What’s more, bots are capable of personalizing the interaction with a customer, making mobile marketing campaigns more effective, and increasing customer engagement and satisfaction levels.

IA is also a great tool for increasing efficiency and productivity in business. By presenting users with data and information that they may not have been able to access otherwise, IA helps businesses make more informed decisions and give their customers the best service possible. For example, a business may use IA to collect data on a specific target market so that they can tailor their mobile marketing efforts to have the biggest impact possible on that audience. By being able to understand exactly what mobile marketing strategies work best, businesses can realize higher ROI with their campaigns while being more productive and cost effective.

Although these technologies are still in their infancy, they show promising outcomes for the future. Businesses who learn to use AI and IA sooner rather later can stay ahead of the trend and will be able to deliver the best possible service and products to their customers.
